Lonnie Carl Boykin, Jr.
December 7, 1944 – December 17, 2011
Lonnie Carl Boykin, Jr., 67, of Sims died Saturday. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sims United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Barbara Tyre will officiate.
The family will receive friends 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home.
Mr. Boykin started his career as a carpenter with Triangle Construction Company with 25 years of service, and finished his career with ST Wooten Corp. of Wilson. He served in the past as a member of Sims Volunteer Fire Department and Sims Town Board. In addition to his love of building, Mr. Boykin enjoyed visiting the Outer Banks and the many lighthouses of North Carolina.
Mr. Boykin is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandra High Boykin; a son, Christopher C. Boykin and wife, Lou Ann of Sims; a daughter, Wendy B. Sullivan and husband, Steve of Wilson; two grandsons “Poppy’s Boys”, Tanner and Taylor Sullivan; his mother Bertha B. Glover of Sims; two sisters, Edith Hartley and husband, W.R. of Brogden, and Barbara Ann Campbell and husband, Melvin of Amherst, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Nelda Fulghum and husband, Ray of Raleigh and Jean High of King; and a special “sister”, Ernestine Glover of Bailey.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lonnie Carl Boykin, Sr., his step-father, Duncan Glover and a brother-in-law, Jerry High.
