Dr. William A. Wallace

Dr. William A. Wallace “Bill”, 60, of Wilson passed away Friday. His memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 4, at First United Methodist Church, Wilson. The Pastor Charles Robl will officiate. A service will be conducted at a later date at Barton College.

The family will receive friends 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.

Bill graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with BS, MS and PhD degrees in chemistry. He was a chemistry professor at Barton College in the Department of Science for 21 years and much loved by his students. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Wilson and the Wilson Evening Lions Club. Bill was an avid sports fan and a season ticket holder of Duke Football for many years. He enjoyed traveling and hiking in the National Parks and had just visited his 32nd park earlier this month. He also enjoyed hanging out with his bulldogs Ivan and Tasha. Although Bill seemed quiet he had a wry sense of humor and loved talking with people. He was a wonderful man who will be missed.

Bill is survived by his wife, Cathi; sisters, Susan Carter and husband, Mark of Yorktown, Virginia and Mary Jo Wallace of Richmond, Virginia; nephew, Bryan Carter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jeanne Wallace.
