Mrs. Ann Newman Page Braswell, age 91, formerly a longtime resident of Elm City, North Carolina died peacefully at her daughter’s home in Blacksburg, Virginia on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Elm City Methodist Church at 2pm with interment to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Braswell was born in Rocky Mount, NC on July 21, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Clara Allsbrook Page and Harvey Lee Page, both of Rocky Mount, NC. She was predeceased by four beloved brothers: Dr. Harvey Allsbrook Page of Pikeville, Kentucky, Robert Draughn Page of Orlando, Florida, William Howard Page of Washington, NC and John Edward Page of Greenport, New York.
Ann was married 49 years to the late James Milton Braswell, Jr of Elm City, NC. She was also preceded in death by her cherished sons, James Vance Braswell and John Page Braswell both formerly of Wilson, NC.
She is survived by her daughter, Lee Ann Braswell Funk of Blacksburg, VA and her husband, Allan; three granddaughters; Sarah Ann Braswell Dempsey and husband Charles Connor Dempsey, Jr. of Wilson, NC, Lieutenant Commander Anna Elizabeth Funk and wife Dr. Maya Gabrielle Florsheim of Kane’ohe, Hawaii and Mary Katherine Funk Bopp and husband, Dr. Austin Joseph Bopp, of Blacksburg, VA; three great-grandchildren Anna Katherine Lee Bopp, Allan Allsbrook Bopp and John Britton Caldwell Bopp of Blacksburg, VA. She is also survived by daughters-in-law Leigh Ann Morris Braswell and Mary Hope Stallings Braswell, both of Wilson, NC.
We wish to express our profound gratitude to Carillon Clinic Hospice Service of New River Valley for the kind and compassionate healthcare and social workers who attended Mrs. Braswell. She grew to care for each and every one!
