Annie "Rebecca" Hinnant Scott

Rebecca Hinnant Scott, 98 of Wilson, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

Throughout her life, Rebecca had a nurturing spirit. As the oldest of 4 children growing up during the depression, Rebecca was expected to "look after your Brother and Sister" (names she would call them forever). A graduate of the Rex Hospital School of Nursing, she nurtured patients through a rewarding career spanning more than 4 decades. Rebecca married Harrison Scott in 1948 and together they nurtured not only their farm, but also the Buckhorn community as church youth leaders, Sunday School teachers, and community servants. Rebecca poured her heart into nurturing her daughters, granddaughters and great grandson while demonstrating the power of pure, unconditional love. She found pleasure in gardening and nurtured the loveliest blooms on her roses and orchids. Rebecca fiercely chopped weeds until the age of 95. She was a woman of great inner strength.

Funeral services will be at 6:00 pm on Friday, December 12th, in the chapel at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Pkwy, Wilson. Visitation will follow the service until 9:00 pm. Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 13th, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 2704 Nash St., Wilson. Reverend David Arroyo will officiate.

Rebecca was predeceased by her husband Harrison Elijah Scott; parents, Roland and Beulah Hinnant; brother Jennings Hinnant and sister Lois Marie Hinnant.

She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Scott Truelove (Jerry), and Michelle Scott Galloway (Jimmy); granddaughters Rebecca Trask (Lake) and Cameron Ivey; and great-grandson Salter Trask; and sister Alice Schooley.
