Gail, 73, of Wilson passed away at Kitty Askins Hospice Center on Friday October 17, 2025. She was surrounded by her entire immediate family.
Gail was born in Wilson County on August 24th, 1952, the daughter of Edward Elton and Besse Mae Boswell Pipkin.
She grew up in Wilson and lived there her entire life. Gail graduated from Fike High School and not long after that she married Jerry Lamm Bunn, her devoted husband of fifty-four years. As her health declined, he remained constant in providing her care and support. Jerry was often seen around Wilson getting her special grocery choices, picking up her medications, and getting her favorite takeout from Wilson eateries like Wilson Donut Shop, The Whole Truth, Marty’s and Sylvia’s.
Gail is known for her love of children and teaching. She worked at Wilson County Schools as a teacher assistant for thirty years. Most of those years were spent at Wells Elementary School. Her passion was seeing young children learn and being a part of that learning. She even worked part time after school at local daycares. When she retired from Wilson County Schools she worked as a preschool teacher at Kiddie Campus and then Mt. Zion Church Preschool. She enjoyed seeing previous students and their families. They were all so special to her.
Anyone that knows Gail knows that her two grandsons, Langdon and Lance Norris were her pride and joy. She would go on and on about them all the time. As her health declined Langdon would go over almost every Sunday to hang out. She looked forward to that. It became their special time. She loved watching Lance swim and kept up with every time and race. She was one of his biggest fans and supporters. She could talk to anyone for hours about Langdon and Lance.
Gail’s family, close friends, and medical team described her as a fighter. That strong-headed nature kept her in the fight against cancer for eight years. Her sister, Arlene, never missed taking her to an oncology appointment and Gail treasured these times with her sister so much. Linda would also go to appointments, and these sisters were well known for their spunk. Just ask Gail’s medical team at Duke.
Gail is survived by her son, Ryan Bunn (Lori) and her daughter, Kimberly Bunn Spell (Dwayne) and her two grandsons, Langdon and Lance Norris. She is survived by her four brothers, Guy Boswell, Buddy Pipkin (Charlotte), LH Pipkin (Cheryl), and Gerald Pipkin (Connie) and her two sisters, Linda Malcolm (Bud) and Arlene Ridoutt. She has numerous nieces and nephews that she adored.
There will be no services per Gail’s request. An intimate celebration of life for her immediate family will be held at a later date just as she wanted.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Duke Cancer Center and/or Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
