Benjamin "Ben" Thomas Raper

Benjamin Thomas Raper, 81, of Lucama, passed away Monday. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. Interment will follow in the Black Creek Town Cemetery. Rev. DeWayne Eakes will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00-10:45 at Joyner’s Funeral Home.

Ben graduated from Lucama High School in 1959 and went on to work for Turnage Tire, as well as Thurston Motor Lines and Yellow Freight Corporation. Ben was a long-time member of The Wilson County Shrine Club, and Wilson Masonic Lodge #712 A.F. & A.M. Ben was also an avid golfer who enjoyed playing a competitive round with his friends. He was a loving husband, father and friend to all who knew him.

Ben is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Raper of the home; daughter, Amy L. Raper of the home; son, David Raper and wife, Kim, of Cary and granddaughter, Madison Raper of Raleigh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Irene Raper; brother, Carlton Raper and sisters, Margie R. Edwards, Betty Lou R. Smith and Peggy R. Peele.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made in Ben’s name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, Maryland, 21741.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Mr. Bill and Brian at Thomas Drug and Darla Aldridge, for all their outgoing, care and compassion during their time of need, as well as special friends, Ann Moore, Michael Moore and Betty Carter, for going above and beyond for the family. The family would also like to send a special thank you to the staff of Hospice of Wilson for their care and compassion.
