Brenda Lucas Dawes

Brenda Lucas Dawes, 79, of Bailey, NC passed to her eternal home with Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.  Family will receive friends on Saturday, May 20 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 20 at 11:00 am at Joyner’s Funeral Home.  Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at Evergreen Memorial Park, 2800 Nash Street N, Wilson.  Reverend Hal Jones and Reverend Reuben Cason will officiate.

Brenda was a lifelong resident of Wilson County and the daughter of the late Ollie Lucas and Paul Lucas.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Faye Lucas Cranford.  She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 56 years Fred Dawes of the home, daughter Sandra Bandy (Jody) of Hendersonville, NC, son Fred Dawes, Jr. (Betsy) of Graham, NC, and three grandchildren Josh Bandy, Jacob Bandy, and Emille Dawes.

Brenda was an amazing daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. All who knew her felt immense love in her presence and felt her joy for life.  She was an active member of White Oak Hill Freewill Baptist Church.  During her life she worked various jobs and retired as a cafeteria worker from the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf.  In her retirement she remained very active caring for her family and returning part time as a beloved cafeteria worker at Bailey Elementary School.

Over the years and in her free time, Brenda was an avid stamp collector, excellent seamstress, accomplished cook, and talented gardener.  Beloved by so many she was always showering those who had the pleasure of knowing her with a wonderful meal, a delicious cake, a beautiful hand-made quilt, or something she picked just for that person.  She has blessed us all with a wonderful legacy of love and thoughtfulness.
