Bruce Harrison Benson

Bruce Harrison Benson, 84, joined the lord on Monday, August 10, 2026, while in the presence of his loved ones. Bruce is preceded in death by his parents, Gwendolyn Morton and Harrison Lemuel Benson. Bruce is survived by his best friend and partner in life, wife Brenda Robinson; brother, Barry Benson Sr. (and family ); sons, Bruce O. Benson and Charles Benson; daughter, Nancy Owen (Tom); step-daughters, Cara Barnes (Tim), and Tanji Bass (Ernest); grandchildren, Matthew Benson, Dylan Benson, Kash Benson, Kyra Benson, Skyler Benson, Ellen Owen, Paul Henry Owen, Summer Craft (Jason), Jackson Barnes, Brianna Bass, Bailey Bass (Brad Batten, fiancé), and great-grandchildren, Kat, DJ, and Ryan.

Bruce grew up in Massachusetts, and joined the Navy reserves while still in high school. Upon graduation, he transitioned to full active duty. He proudly served his country for twenty-two years and retired after achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After his Naval Service, he was employed by Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, Virginia, where he worked for over twenty years writing technical manuals for nuclear class submarines. Bruce had a great love for the sea. He found solace while at the helm of a sailboat and loved visiting lighthouses. When not near the water, you would see him behind the lens of a camera, capturing memories of family weddings and the grandchildren’s many dance recitals and sports events. He also filled his time with cross stitch and photo editing, and at one time even maintained a small greenhouse of tropical plants. Bruce loved plants and flowers and surprised his wife with them often, so flowers are welcome.
