Charles Walton Pittman, III, passed away Monday, February 23, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Daniels Chapel, 4828 Frank Price Church Road, Wilson. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. Rev. Bill Groce and Rev. Stephen Prescott will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.

Charles Walton Pittman, III, devoted 40 years to serving the City of Wilson, the community he loved and called home. From City Auditor to Director of Finance and later Deputy City Manager, he approached every role with humility, steadiness, and a sincere desire to help his hometown thrive.

His leadership supported many of Wilson’s key advancements, including early technology improvements, the Buckhorn Reservoir expansion, transit and downtown enhancements, and the growth of the Burt Gillette Athletic Complex. He also gave generously of his time through service on numerous boards, including more than three decades with the University of Mount Olive. In 2009, upon his retirement, he received The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, honoring his remarkable dedication and impact.

Charles was also a man of deep faith and a lifelong member of Daniels Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, teacher, and faithful member. His quiet strength, kindness, and devotion to both his church and community were evident in the way he lived each day.

Those who knew Charles remember his calm presence, his generosity of spirit, and his unwavering love for Wilson. His legacy lives on in the community he strengthened and in the many people whose lives he touched

Charles is survived by his wife, Brenda E. Pittman; son, Charles W. Pittman, IV and wife, Angie; daughter, Glynda Pittman Westerbeek and husband, Pieter; grandchildren, Caroline Burrell and husband, Jared, Anna Grace Pittman, Laura Cate Westerbeek, and Pieter Westerbeek and wife, Natalie; sister, Barbara Tomlinson Brinson and his brothers, Larry Pittman and wife, Debbie, Glenn Pittman and wife, Kathy and Lynn Pittman and wife, Suzette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Laura Pittman and his first wife, Carol Smith Pittman.
