Cynthia Godwin Mayo, 58, of Kenly NC, passed away on October 30, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2025, in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. Rev. Tommy Newcomb will officiate.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, November 3, 2025, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Cynthia was born December 16, 1966, in Wilson the daughter of Jimmy and Joyce Godwin, whom have both proceeded her in death.
Cynthia married Daniel Alton Mayo on September 23,1983 at Jimmy and Joyce Godwins home in Wilson, with Lilly Mayo officiating. They were married for thirty-seven years when Daniel passed away in 2020 but their loved survived so much over the years. Five children; Jennifer Mayo (42) of Bailey, Jessica Mayo (36) of Fremont, Daniel Mayo (34) of Kenly, Walter Mayo (17) of Kenly and Troy Mayo (16) of Kenly. With those Five children came eight grandchildren, Thomas Mayo (19) of Kenly, Keira Mayo (18) of Greenville, Kaeden Barnes (17) of Snow Camp, Daniel Griffin (16) of Wasilla, Cristina Griffin (16) of Fayetteville, Lilly Griffin (15) of Wasilla, Jeremiah Griffin (13) of Wasilla, and Kennedi Barnes (6) of Bailey.
Cherishing Cindy’s memories along with her children and grandchildren are her sisters, Cathy Odwyer of Kenly and Sherry Watkins of Dunn; mother-in-law, Dorothy Mayo; father-in-law, Dennis Mayo; brothers-in-law, Kevin Mayo and Micheal Mayo; sister-in-law Tonya Mayo; nieces, Nola Morales of Raleigh and Carrie Joyce Watkins of Dunn and her nephews, Jimmy Godwin of Benson and Christian Watkins of Dunn.
Cynthia worked as a Correctional Officer at Central Prison in Raleigh. Cynthia worked for CP for twenty plus years until she was medically released from work.
Cynthia especially loved spending time at the beach playing Bingo, fishing, or just hanging out in the beach salty air. She would run off to the beach whenever the feeling hit her. She would be home one minute and call her two hours later and she be on her way to Morehead City.
Preceding Cynthia in death are her spouse, Daniel Mayo; mother, Joyce Godwin and father, Jimmy Godwin.
In lieu of flowers, the family are requesting that you make donations to Joyner’s Funeral Home, PO Box 425, Wilson, North Carolina 27894 in Cynthia’s memory to help with end-of-life expenses.
