Daphion "Daphne" Anne Freeman White

Daphion “Daphne” Anne Freeman White, 71, passed away on Wednesday, December 27.  A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 30 at 5:00 pm at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. 

Family will receive friends immediately following the celebration of life at Joyner’s Funeral Home.

Daphne was a graduate of East Carolina University and Barton College.  She spent her life serving others as a Special Education teacher for Wilson County Schools.  She also enjoyed being a mentor to the student teachers who shared her classroom, along with beginning teachers. 

In her younger years, Daphne was active with the Humane Society.  She also taught art classes through the Arts Council, including “ArtMobile,” which traveled to elementary schools in the county each summer to teach a week-long art program.  She also was a faithful member of West Nash United Methodist Church and served as Director of Christian Education for several years.

Daphne is survived by her loving husband of forty-nine years, John David White of the home; daughter, Ginny Hemrick and husband, Derek of Hamptonville; brother, Michael Freeman and wife, Susan of Washington; sister-in-law, Sarah Nelson and husband Jim of New Bern; brother-in-law, Billy White of Poquoson, VA; grandson, Samuel David Hemrick of Hamptonville; nieces, Melissa Waldrop and husband, Josh, Caroline Asby and husband Cody, and Katherine Swinson and husband, Chris; and nephews, Jim Nelson, Patrick White, and Colby Freeman and wife, Leslie.

Daphne was preceded in death by her parents, George Howard Freeman and Elizabeth Dale Ivey Freeman; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Michael “Moose” Moore; nephew, David Nelson; and in-laws, Archie and Edith White.
