David Alden Howell

David A. Howell, 69, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 14, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born and raised in Wilson, David graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He spent his career working in the food and pharmaceutical industries, where he was known for his dedication, problem-solving skills, and strong work ethic.

David will be lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-eight years, Barbara; his daughter, Lisa and her husband, Matthew Robbins, along with their children, Tanner and Kaylee of Stantonsburg, North Carolina; his son, Spencer and his wife, Deanna Howell, and their children, Grayson and Logan of Thibodaux, Louisiana. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Howell and his wife, Janet of Chapin, South Carolina.

David was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Barnes Howell of Wilson, North Carolina.

David was a true outdoorsman and a man of many talents. He found peace and joy in nature­ whether in a deer stand, a duck blind, or standing on the coast with a fishing rod in hand. He had a deep appreciation for Native American history and spent hours searching for arrowheads and Indian artifacts. David also had a creative spirit and a love for craftsmanship-he enjoyed photography, cooking, woodworking, and gardening. He and Barbara shared a passion for travel, fulfilling their dream of visiting all thirty-six national parks on David's bucket list.

After being diagnosed with cancer in May of 2023, David's faith in the Lord was reignited and burned brighter than ever. Throughout his journey, he became a vessel of encouragement, sharing the love of Christ with others through beautiful handmade wood burnings, hand-painted stones, and uplifting magnets that carried messages of hope and faith.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Joyner's Funeral Home, with a service led by Pastor Jody Flowers of Chapin Christian Community Church in Chapin, South Carolina. The family will receive friends immediately following the service from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
