Dawn Melanie Banasiak Mitchum, 56, of Wilson, NC went to Heaven peacefully Sunday, October 27, 2013.  A celebration of her life will be conducted 7 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home.  Father Phillip Byrum will officiate.   The family will receive friends Wednesday evening immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.   Dawn was born February 26, 1957, in Wilson, NC, and graduated from Fike High School in 1975.  She was married to James Tyler Mitchum March 29, 1981.  Dawn was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and nurse.  She lived her life the way she wanted and had no regrets.   Surviving are her husband, James Tyler Mitchum; three daughters, Amanda Denise Mitchum, Rebecca Leigh Meeks and husband, Michael, and Erica Ann Shorts and husband, Jeremy; three grandchildren, Ephraim Mitchum, Nicholas Meeks, and Zachary Meeks; a sister, Lynn Hathaway; and nieces and nephews, Jay Banasiak, Mark and Rhonda Banasiak, Christy and Michael Edmondson, Randy and Anna Bass, Katie Bass, Tiffany Hathaway, Nicole Hathaway, and Scarlett Hathaway.   She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin John Banasiak, Sr. and Kathleen Borden Banasiak, and two brothers, E.J. Banasiak and Dennis Borden Banasiak.   In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations for “The Girls” to help continue to support them.   Condolences may be directed to www.joyners.net.
