Elizabeth Elaine Cooper left this earthly home on Thursday, March 12, 2026. She was born on December 12 of 1940 to Clarence and Lillian Black of Sanford North Carolina. She loved our Lord Jesus Christ, and I feel at peace knowing she was welcomed home and is reunited with her Mama who she called out for often, along with my Daddy and her daughter, Terry.
Mama had a passion for children and spent over thirty years working in various daycare businesses in Wilson. She would often see some of the children she taught grow up to have their own. It seemed appropriate that once she moved into long term care at Wilson Rehab and Nursing Center that her room had the perfect view to see the Growing Tree daycare children each time they came into the playground area. That was definitely a Godwink and something she enjoyed.
I felt honored as her daughter to have been able to see her often and oversee her care. The staff provided her with exceptional service, and she of course had her favorites that would make her light up every time she saw them, which was so endearing to me. During many visits together, Mama would still try to give me her food as it was still important to her to ensure I had eaten. It was a privilege to be a part of being with her. Even on her last day here, she was able to clearly tell me she loved me. My brother and I will continue to honor and share stories of her.
Elizabeth Elaine is preceded in death by her husband, William “Billy” Harvey Cooper; daughter, Terry Lynn Cooper Farmer; parents, Clarence and Lillian Black; sisters, Pat Webster, Dot Richardson, and Brenda Gunter, and her brother, Billy Black.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Cooper Church of Wilson; son, William Jeffrey Cooper of Raleigh; grandson, Mark Selby Farmer, Jr (Brooke) of Wilson and granddaughter, Faith Hunter Florentina Church of Rosemary Beach, Florida.
A very special thanks to Hospice of Wilson, nurse Brittney Taylor, social worker Ashley Suggs, spiritual director Greg Webb for their dedication and of course her many caregivers at Wilson Rehab and Nursing Center including Felsuia, Sarai, Tish, Keisha, Sherry, Eric, Elizabeth, Tonya and Brandy to name a few.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2026 in Evergreen Memorial Park, 2800 Nash St, Wilson.
Condolences directed to Joyner’s Funeral Home and Crematory at www.joyners.net.
