Elizabeth Daugherty Daniel

Elizabeth Jay (Betty Jay) Daugherty Daniel, age 86, died on Wednesday, December 21, 2022. She was born on September 29, 1936, in Nacogdoches, TX, to Jay and Florence (Wilhour) Daugherty. She graduated from Varnville High School in Varnville, SC, and attended Atlantic Christian College. She married Luther Grifton Daniel on July 7, 1957. She worked as a Teacher Assistant in Wilson County Schools. She was a charter member of the Black Creek Historical Society. Betty Jay also served as pianist for Black Creek United Methodist Church for over fifty years.

She is survived by her children, Diana Page (Barry) of Wilson, James (Susan) Daniel of Wilmington, and Joseph (Lorie) Daniel of Black Creek; grandchildren Zach, Lauren, Leah, and Jacob Daniel; brothers Paul Daugherty (Elizabeth) and James Daugherty (Janice), and her sister-in-law, Jean Daniel Collier (Earnest). She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Luther Grifton Daniel, and her parents.

Visitation will be at Joyner's Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 27, from 5:00-5:45pm with funeral following at 6:00pm. Graveside will be held at 11:00am Wednesday in Black Creek Town Cemetery. Rev. Barry Weyant will officiate.
