Ernest Phillips Barnes

Ernest Phillips Barnes May 18, 1952 – May 1, 2021 Ernest Phillips Barnes, 68, of Wilson, died May 1, 2021. A private service will be held by the family at a later date. Phil Barnes was a retired firefighter who spent many years with the Wilson Fire Department. During his firefighting career he became a certified specialist in the handling and disposal of hazardous materials. Phil had many talents and interests. He was a creative potter, turning and firing beautiful bowls, mugs and sinks over the years. He was also experienced in all the building trades and was always willing to teach others and pass along his wealth of practical knowledge. Phil is survived by his son, Phillip Carawan Barnes (Jennifer Porcaro) of Wilson; granddaughter, Saylor Nyx Barnes; sister, Janet Barnes Harris (John) of Hendersonville, and brother, William Henry Barnes, Jr. (Carol) of Durham.
