Ernestine Rae Cobb, 74, of Wilson passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July ll, 2026, at Howard Chapel at Barton College, 200 College Street NE, Wilson. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson.
Ernestine is survived by her sister, Joyce Griffin, and husband, David; brother, David Cobb; nieces and nephews, Clyde Shafer II and wife, Sherry, Gale Shafer, Jr., Jennifer Powell and David Shafer and wife, JoAnna, and her great nieces and nephews, Clyde Shafer lll, Victoria Shafer, Kris Shafer, Kelly Winstead, Justin Winstead, Spencer Shafer, Maggie Shafer, Ruth Shafer, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Ruby Cobb, and her sister, Susan Shafer.
Ernestine attended Fike High School, and the family were ardent supporters of the State Champion Teams in football. Happy days were then spent at Atlantic Christian College with treasured times of the chorus and Stage and Script. Lifelong friendships were cultivated. She was a loyal, caring fan to the Barton Bulldogs and the Bulldog Club, having been so thrilled at the National Championship and always cheering the teams efforts. Christmas and alumni events at Barton were so enjoyed.
North Wilson Presbyterian was her first church home and then Covenant Presbyterian. Being active in children's church, Christmas plays and the choir, as well as World Mission and Bible conferences in Montreat were so valued.
She truly enjoyed her many trips to the house at Atlantic Beach and time spent shopping, going to concerts, and eating on the waterfront. Traveling to New York was special, and The Jersey Boys was her favorite musical.
A very loyal Wilson Tobs fan, she could be found many years in her special seat. Our daddy instilled this love of the Tobs and baseball. Carolina basketball was a close second. Here and at many other activities, she was the family photographer.
She loved her family and valued time with siblings and nieces and nephews. Having one of them call her or come by was treasured. Her family is extremely grateful for caring acts of her friends and caregivers, especially Teresa Atkinson, who was an angel to all us. Deep appreciation to Dr. Hoosain and to Dr. Lerro.
Condolences directed to Joyner’s Funeral Home and Crematory at www.joyners.net.
