Gary Taylor

Gary “Goose” Taylor, 60, passed away on July 4, 2026. He was born on July 26, 1965. 

Gary was known for his laid-back personality, compassion, and genuine kindness. He never met a stranger and found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved, sharing laughter, and watching a good game. A devoted sports fan, Gary was a lifelong supporter of the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Washington Redskins.

Gary is survived by his daughter, Rebekah Taylor Hutchens, and her husband, Cameron Hutchens; his beloved grandsons, Barrett and Banks Hutchens; his mother, Deanna Hill Whitley, and stepfather, Charles Whitley; his brother, Mikie Taylor, and sister-in-law, Layce Liles Taylor; and his nieces, Anna-Brooke Taylor and Caroline Taylor. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Taylor; and his best friend Jimmy “Possum” Garris. 

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Connect Church, 4865 Nash Street North, Wilson, North Carolina 27896. 

Gary will be remembered for his compassionate heart, his love for family and friends, his willingness to help anyone in need, and his unwavering support for his favorite teams.
