George Henry Smith

George Henry Smith passed away peacefully with this loving family by his side.

If you knew George Smith, you were truly blessed. He was Mr. George to some, Daddy to his two daughters, and Pa George to all his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was a special man, and if you met him even once, you never forgot him.

George married the love of his life Catherine Franks Smith and loved her faithfully for the rest of his life. He had two loving daughters that cared for him dearly. He loved football and baseball and was an NC State man through and through. He was very proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army. He was also proud of his 30-plus-year career with Cargill before retiring and later working many more years at BB&T (now Truist) until he finally retired for good.

In his younger years, George loved coaching the American Legion Post 13 baseball team. As he got older, he spent many years pulling the chains for Hunt High School football. Sports were always a big part of his life and he truly loved them.

But most of all, he loved his family. He loved his daughters and grandchildren, but he absolutely adored his great grandchildren, and great-great grandchild. They brought him the most happiness in his final years. And, of course jokes, Pa George loved telling

jokes- something everyone who met him will always remember.

He is survived by his two daughters, Georgia S. Walston and Donna M. King (Ronnie); his grandchildren, Rhonda Meszaros (Lou), Jessica Walston (Jerry), Ashley Etheridge (Kyle), and Cassidy Walston (Brett); his great-grandchildren, Annah-Claire Kruse (Kevin),

Sophia Meszaros, Mason Etheridge, Parker Etheridge, Tanner Smith, and Sloane Hart; his great-great-grandson, Koa Kruse. He is also survived by his sister, Belle Waddell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Julia Smith; his brothers and sisters; his beloved wife, Catherine Smith, his daughter, Pamela Smith; his grandson, Shawn King; and his great-granddaughter Olivia Meszaros.

Per his request, no service will be held. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to hospice nurses Tanya, Susanne, and Jordan, as well as social worker Ashley, for their compassionate care.

George will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

We love you Daddy and Pa.

Condolences directed to Joyner’s Funeral Home and Crematory at www.joyners.net.
