Grady Morrison Robbins June 4, 1947 – September 15, 2020 Grady Morrison “Bucky” Robbins, 73 of Elm City passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 4, 1947 to the late H. Grady Robbins and Juanita Brewer Robbins. Bucky loved his family and his community. He was a lifelong resident of Wilson County and a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the finance and personnel committees. Bucky was very civic minded and served in various leadership roles through the years including two terms as a Wilson County Commissioner. He served as the Chairman of the City of Wilson Recreation Commission and was a Board of Director of both the Wilson County Library as well as the Wilson County Arts Council. He served as a past Vice Chairman/Chairman of the Wilson County Community College Board of Trustees and on the Board of Advisors of Barton College. His dedication to his community was honored in 2019 with the Order of the Long Pine award granted by The Office of the Governor of North Carolina. His love for his family farm and the region’s agribusiness was tireless. Whether he was entertaining local business leaders, elected officials or Barton College sports teams at his beloved “Bucky’s Swamp”, he always made sure to foster community and inclusion. Bucky served on many agribusiness boards during his life. He proudly served as the Chairman of the Wilson County Agribusiness Committee, was a member of the Wilson County Farm Bureau Board of Directors as well as served with the Wilson County Forestry Association. Bucky is survived by his loving wife of thirty-two years, Terri Thompson Robbins and his three children, Grady Douglas “Chip” Robbins of Boston, Massachusetts, Lisabeth Robbins Sumner and husband, Michael of Elm City as well as Miller Thompson Robbins and wife, Lauren of Elm City; granddaughter, Sara-Grayson Sumner; his aunts, Betty Dew Strickland and Mary Gray Brewer and many beloved cousins and extended family. The family would like to thank Carrie, Mandy and Michelle with Community Hospice for their outstanding care and support provided to him over the past few weeks. Bucky’s memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2020 at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson with the family receiving friends immediately following the service.
