Gretchen Mewborn Davis

Gretchen Mewborn Davis 79, of Wilson North Carolina passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2026. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2026 at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. 

She loved deeply and laughed often, bringing joy to those around her. She was endlessly giving and a constant source of support for her family, especially Matt and Tara. As a devoted Granny, she could always be found cheering from the sidelines at games, showing up for practices, or attending school events with pride. Many will remember seeing her out and about in Wilson-often on lively shopping trips with Kameron and Karson, especially at Harris Teeter, where the boys happily pushed their own little carts. There were countless visits to GameStop, trips to the movies, and she was always ready to go out to eat and spend time together. 

She was a devoted mother to Matt and Ken, and her love extended far beyond them-so much so that all of their friends knew her as a mom, too. 

She is survived by her son, Matthew Davis, and daughter-in-law, Tara Davis; her grandsons, Kameron Davis and Karson Davis. She is also survived by her brother, Thomas Mewborn; her sister, Nancy Henderson; her sister-in-law, Margie Streifert; and her brother-in-law, James Davis and his wife, Betty Davis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Davis; her son, Kenly Davis; and her sister-in-law, Del Wall.
