Hyatt Minges Field died peacefully at home on Monday, March 9, 2026. Born in Birmingham, Alabama on February 12, 1951 to Dr. Charles Hyatt Field and Helen Minges Field, Hyatt’s life was committed to loving his family, his friends, and most importantly to the Lord Jesus Christ.
On July 19, 1980, Hyatt married his wife, Debbie Burnette Field, which began a forty-six-year marriage. They were partners in the truest sense in life, love, and family.
Hyatt grew up in Macon, Georgia where he attended Stratford Academy and Lanier High School. The friends he made during these formative years were life-long friends. He attended the University of Georgia and loved always the Georgia Bull “Dawgs”. Attending Georgia football games with his PhI Delta fraternity brothers was always special.
After graduation, Hyatt’s professional life began when he moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, where he bought into his mother’s family’s business, Minges Beer Company. The name was later changed to Field Distributing Company and the headquarters moved to Wilson, North Carolina. His commitment to business excellence was recognized by the Miller Brewing Company when Hyatt’s company won the Prestigious Miller Master’s Award for five years. This placed Hyatt in the company of a very few select beer distributors across the United States. He always had such love and respect for all of his employees, crediting their hard work for making these awards possible.
Later, Hyatt founded Virginia Field Fine Jewelry, specializing in unique pieces sourced from around the world. He treasured his many friends in the industry and customers as well.
More than anything, Hyatt loved the Lord. He took such pleasure in the study of God’s word and in his times of prayer. His compassionate heart for the elderly and those less fortunate was evident not only in word but in deed. Since his death, we have heard from some whom he quietly helped along the way. He served others with joy, thereby setting a beautiful example for his children.
Hyatt loved the outdoors, sports, hunting and shooting, Wrightsville Beach and being with his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie Burnette Field; his son, Hyatt Minges Field, Jr. (Jennifer); his daughter, Virginia Elizabeth Field; and his four step-grandchildren, Cameron, Carter, Callen and Cooper.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park, 2800 Nash St, Wilson, on Saturday, March 14th at 2:00 p.m.
Donations in Hyatt’s memory may be made to Gethsemane Baptist Church, 3539 London Church Road, Elm City, or to the Maggie Society.
Condolences directed to Joyner’s Funeral Home and Crematory at www.joyners.net.
