James Earl Barnes

James Earl Barnes, 86, of Black Creek, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 20, 2023. He was lovingly attended to by his family and his incredible hospice team.

He was born August 24, 1936, in Black Creek, NC. He grew up in Black Creek and graduated from Lee Woodard High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the Air Force where he honorably served 20 years. Following his military service, he worked at Growers Cooperative Warehouse and then as a Payroll Clerk at Williamson Trucklines for 14 years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family as it grew to 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his parents James Albert and Daisy Lucas Barnes, brother Doug and sister Helen Jean.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Glenda Aycock Barnes, children Debbie Bass of Wilson, NC, Jimmy (Christie) of Ayden, NC, Kathy Wright (Colin) of Cary, NC, and Betty Greene of Wilson, NC; grandchildren Megan Phares (Josh) of Hubert, NC, Troy Barnes (Natalie) of Warrensburg, MO, Kyle Bass (Brittany) of Elm City, NC, Chelsea Evans (Nick) of Newport News, VA, Caroline Wright of Denver, CO, Bradley Wright of Cary, NC, Annie and Amy Greene of Wilson, NC; great -grandchildren Kimberlyn, Liliann, and Easton Phares of Hubert, NC, Avery, Caris and Kinley Barnes of Warrensburg, MO, Alissa and Eli Bass of Elm City, NC, and Ezra and Banks Evans of Newport News, VA; and sister Lena Carol Bass of Lucama, NC. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Ronny Aycock (Susan), of Raleigh, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Daniels Chapel FWB Church on Wednesday, March 22, at 3:00 p.m. A visitation will be held in the church parlor following the service.
