James Opie “Joe” Edwards, 64, of Wilson passed Tuesday.  A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in Oakdale Cemetery, Spring Hope.  Stan Corbett will officiate.

 The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home. Joe served his country honorably and faithfully for 33 years with the U.S. Army.  He served two tours in the Vietnam Conflict and served one tour in the Iraq Conflict to protect our freedom and country.  He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend to all that knew him.  He will be greatly missed; memories of him will always be with the ones that loved and knew him. Joe is survived by his son, James O. Edwards, Jr. and wife, Jeri of Wilson; his grandchildren, Christian Edwards and Sydney Edwards; his sister, Jakie Edwards Glick and husband, Richard of Raleigh; his aunt, Ann Moore Morton of Rocky Mount and several cousins.
