Jean Harrison Thorne

Jean Harrison Thorne, 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 14, 2023 at her home in Wilson, NC.  Graveside services will be held 11:00 am on Friday, July 21 in Maplewood Cemetery, 400 College Street NE, Wilson.  Reverend Charles Robl and Pastor Derek Bossolono will be officiating.

Survivors include four daughters, Elizabeth “Betsy” Thorne Strowd (Roy), Jean “Jeanie” Thorne Moore, Dr. Leigh Boyette Thorne (Kate) and Sarah Thorne Mercer (Greg); two sons, Edward Young Cox Thorne, Jr. (Martha) and James “Jim” Thorne (Peggy), 18 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by them all.

Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Dr. Edward Young Cox Thorne, as well as her parents, Varina Boyette Harrison and James Walter “JW” Harrison; and her sisters, Anne Harrison Ruffin and Rae Harrison Dew Stephenson.

The Thorne family sends special thanks to family and friends who have loved and supported Jean throughout her long life and sends special appreciation to the team of hospice professionals from Gentiva Hospice.
