Jeannie Gray Burney

Jeannie Gray Burney Deacon Jeannie Burney was born on January 18, 1945 to the late Nora G. Burney and James Richard Burney in Wilson, N.C. She departed this life on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 4:46 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, at 11 a.m. at Hamilton Gardens in Wilson, North Carolina. She attended Wilson County Schools, graduating from Charles H. Darden High School in the class of 1962. She went on to further her education at Winston-Salem State University. She graduated from Shaw University in 1976 with a degree in Communications. Deacon Burney accepted Christ at an early age. She became a member of Higher Calling Baptist Church December 2, 2001. She was very active in church before her health failed. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nora G. Burney and her father, James Richard Burney, and her sister, Catherine Davis. She leaves to cherish, one daughter, Sherie James and one granddaughter, Kathyrn James, a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
