Jeffrey Nichols Godwin, 53 of Kenly passed away peacefully at his home on Friday. Jeff went home to be with his heavenly father after a heroic battle with Glioblastoma Brain Cancer. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Kenly Town Cemetery, Kenly. Rev. Dennis Pollock will officiate.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
After graduating from North Johnston High School in 1987, Jeff worked with the Wilson Fire Department for 30 years before retiring in 2019. Aside from the fire department, Jeff had many hobbies. He loved playing guitar, working in his yard, and spending his days at the family pine tree farm. Jeff earned the title of Tree Farmer of the Year in 2010 from Johnston County Soil & Water Conservation for his outstanding stewardship of forest resources. He took pride in everything he did and always had a “smooth” way of going about things.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife of thirty years, Karen Johnson Godwin; daughter, April Nicole Godwin; his parents, Worth and Patricia Godwin of Middlesex, and his sister, Angela Williamson, and husband, David of Emerald Isle.
Many thanks to Community Home Care & Hospice of Clayton for their care and support during Jeff’s time of need. The family would like to extend special thanks to his nurse, Michelle.
