Jeffrey Shelton Pittman, PhD

On January 11, 2026, Jeffrey S. Pittman, 72, of Chesapeake, VA, left this earth to join his Lord and Savior. He left behind his devoted wife of 46 years, Janet Griffin Pittman, formerly of Bailey.

Jeff received his BA from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and attended Oxford University through the UNC summer residency program. He earned his MBA from Regent University and his PhD from Old Dominion University. He was an active member of the National Association of College Auxiliary Services.

Jeff was a strong believer in Christ and always wanted to serve wherever he was. Most of his working life was at Regent University of Virginia. He served in different capacities, including Vice President for Student Services and Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Education. He enjoyed working with students and helping them achieve the calling on their lives. His students and co-workers loved and respected him.

Jeff lived his Christian faith, enjoying life and inspiring those around him to follow Christ and always trust Him. He deeply cared for others in word and deed and never lost an opportunity to use his wit to make you laugh. Because of his low vision, Jeff showed great determination throughout his entire life. He looked forward to nice quiet weekends where he could watch the Tar Heels play basketball.

Jeff leaves behind a much-loved sister, Nina Jackie Undset and her husband, John, who was like a brother to him, from Virginia Beach, Virginia; a treasured sister-in-law, Marcia Pittman of Tennessee; a loved sister-in-law Vicky Griffin of Bailey; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as dear friends, Pam and Pat Mongin and sons.

Jeff was predeceased by his parents, Jesse C Pittman and Ophelia Barnes Pittman of Kenly; a sister, Joanne Pittman Bridge of New Mexico; and a brother, Jesse “Tommy” Pittman of Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jeff’s memory may be made to Deep Creek Baptist Church, 250 Mill Creek Pkwy, Chesapeake VA 23323 or Regent University, 1000 Regent University Dr, Virginia Beach VA 23464.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026 at 2:00pm at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Rd Pkwy W, Wilson, NC. The funeral service will be livestreamed on the Joyner’s Funeral Home website, at Jeffrey’s obituary. Interment will follow at the Bailey Town Cemetery, Bailey, NC. Rev. Hal Jones will officiate.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:45-1:45pm at Joyner’s Funeral Home.
