Joe Dean Fortney of Wilson passed away Saturday. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 -8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Lugene Buehler Fortney; daughter, Victoria Barnett and husband, Charles Boykin; sons, Jonathan Fortney; step-daughter, Melissa Howard and husband, Steve; step-sons, George Stayton and wife, Sandy, and William Sutton; grandchildren, Jasmine Fortney, Lucas Barnett, Dustin Howard, Emily Howard, Heidi Howard, Savannah Howard, Bryson Howard, Tyler Stayton, Jared Stayton, A.J. Stayton, Alex Howard, Dillon Howard, and Amelia Boykin; brothers, Wilgus Fortney and wife Sharon, and Danny Fortney and wife, Cynthia; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Buehler Graziani, and Jennifer Buehler Sugg and husband, Charles; brother-in-law, Ricky Buehler and wife, Linda; many nieces and nephews and his beloved pet, Lil Bit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Jessie Combs Fortney.
