John Frederick “Freddie” Deans, of Wilson passed away on September 27, 2025. Freddie was born on July 28, 1937, son of Stephen Grady Deans and Louise Sharp Deans.

Freddie was the proud owner and operator of Deans Oil Company, where he dedicated many years of service to his customers. He was also the owner of Smith Warehouse where he enjoyed many years in the tobacco industry. He faithfully served his country as a member of United States Army Reserve. As a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he was an avid follower of the Tar Heels. The local community held a special place in his heart where he was a supporter of Barton College and Freewill Baptist Children's Home in Middlesex.

Freddie was a devoted husband to his wife, Barbara Deans and a loving father to Joanna Mudge (Tripp) of Morehead City, John Deans (Stephanie) of Raleigh, Annie O'Brien (Anthony) of New Bern, Heather Deans Foley and Catherine Deans. He was also a cherished grandfather to Anna Charles Mudge, Addyson O'Brien, John Wyatt O'Brien, and Brooke Deans.

The family would like to say special thanks to Michelle Bridgers and Crystal Langley for their countless hours and also to the many other wonderful caregivers and the staff of Gentiva for their compassion and nurturing care.

A celebration of life service will be at 11a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church, 311 Nash Street W, Wilson. The Rev. Dr. Chris Thomas will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial can be made to Barton College, PO Box 5000, Wilson, North Carolina 27893 or First Baptist Church, PO Box 1467, Wilson, North Carolina 27894.
