Joyce Bunn Woodard, age 95 of Wilson and daughter of the late Henry Horace Bunn and Blanche Roberson Bunn, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Homestead Hills in Winston-Salem, Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday August 16, 2025, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. Dr. Chris Thomas of First Baptist Church of Wilson will officiate.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, August 16, 16, 2025 from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson.
A native of Snow Hill, Joyce graduated from Rex Hospital School of Nursing as an RN (Registered Nurse) in 1951. Two years later, in 1953, she married Tony Melton Woodard, who preceded her in death after fifty-four years of marriage. Following her graduation from Rex and during the early years of their marriage, Joyce worked at several hospitals and private practices -- before transitioning to part-time nursing roles after starting and raising her family.
Mrs. Woodard was predeceased by all six of her sisters and brothers, Agnes Willcutt, Alice Bundy, Anne Laura Rapee, Edward T. Bunn, Bill Bunn and Jack Bunn.
Joyce is survived by her three children; Ann Johnson of Leland and son, Andrew Flowers, daughter, Sara Flowers and son, Kevin Flowers; Lee Woodard of Winston-Salem and his wife, Robin and daughter, Christina; and Mark Woodard of Barberton, Ohio and his wife, Natalie and daughter, Cara Sadler and son, Paul Woodard. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Christian Flowers, Evie Flowers, and Madeline Sadler.
The family is most grateful to the caregivers with Live Long Well Care, the staff at Homestead Hills, and the hospice support team from Trellis Supportive Care who took such good care of Joyce over the last several months.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to First Baptist Church, PO Box 1467, Wilson, North Carolina, 27894 or to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27103.
