Justine Barnes Corbett, 85, passed away peacefully at Spring Arbor of Wilson on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
Justine was born to Thurman George Barnes and Stella Daniel Barnes and grew up on the beloved family farm on Wiggins Mill Road, in Wilson County. She graduated from Lucama High School. With a degree in Elementary Education from UNC Greensboro, Justine began a career teaching students in Fremont, Wilson, and educational development courses for her peers and finishing her teaching career at Toisnot Middle School. Upon retiring, she continued to inspire students as an interim teacher and as a high school substitute teacher, often volunteering rather than getting paid. She was an avid donator of blood for the American Red Cross. Justine was a dynamic, empathetic, creative, passionate mentor who motivated students to want to learn. Justine loved traveling with her beloved Derek Bonshor and meeting people. She never met a stranger! She was always interested in others’ life stories. Whenever you left Justine, and said, “I love you”, her response was always, “I love you more…”
Justine is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Randy Barnes, and her beloved Derek Bonshor.
Justine is survived by her niece, Brandalyn Broadway; great nephew, Barnes Broadway, and great niece, Elizabeth Broadway.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
A graveside service will be held Monday, February 23, 2026, at 2 p.m. in the Barnes Family Cemetery behind Westminster Church on 4676 Wiggins Mill Road, Lucama, North Carolina.
