Katherine "Kathy" Whitley Thigpen

March 20, 1956 – January 12, 2022

Katherine “Kathy” Whitley Thigpen, 65, of Wilson, passed away Wednesday. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Rev. Rex Edwards will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the services. Per the family’s request, masks are strongly encouraged.

She was employed by the Piggly Wiggly in Wilson for over thirty years as the bakery manager. Kathy became known for the “Kathy Cakes”. She loved her job, her coworkers and her loyal customer.

Katherine is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Thigpen Bullock and husband David; grandsons, Alex Taylor and Cody Taylor; granddaughter, Alexis Bullock; mother, Dorothy R. Walston; brothers, Ricky Whitley and wife Joni of Wilmington, Wayne Whitley and wife Teresa of Stantonsburg, David Lynn Whitley as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Glenn Thigpen; father, Jesse Lee Whitley and son, Larry Gregory Thigpen.
