He attended Wake Forest University and enlisted in the United States Air Force after college. After discharged he entered into the profession of commercial fire protection with High Point Sprinkler Company. He returned to the fire protection industry with VSC Corporation where he became an owner/partner. Shortly before his retirement and the beginning of his illness he wanted to move to Wilson County to be near his wife’s family which brought him back to North Carolina.
