Leiotte Rose Crumpton Boyd, a native of Roxboro, NC, was the daughter of the late Raney E. and Pearl Carver Crumpton. She graduated from Roxboro High School in 1955 and went on to attend Greensboro College before earning her BA in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1959. It was at UNC that she met her husband, Allan Craig Boyd, and the two were married in 1960 before settling in Kenly, where Allan opened the Kenly Drug Co. to begin his pharmacy career. Rose assisted him in the drug store for much of her life.
Rose dedicated her life to service, both in her community and her church. She was an active member of the North Carolina Pharmaceutical Association Women’s Auxiliary, serving as president for two years, and was involved in numerous organizations including the North Carolina Museum of History Associates, the Wilson Woman’s Club, the Kenly Garden Club, and the Order of the Eastern Star of Selma, where she served for fifty years. Her commitment to her faith was especially evident through her longtime membership at Kenly United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, and was honored with a United Methodist Church pin for her service of 50 years, her most proud accomplishment.
Above all, Rose cherished her family. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and found her greatest joy in the time she spent with them—whether it was playing checkers, Scrabble, cards, or hosting tea parties. They knew she always had a pack of Juicy Fruit gum ready in her pocketbook for them, a small gesture that became a lasting memory for those who loved her.
She also created memories in the simplest, most meaningful ways—taking her grandchildren to McDonald’s, the park, or to the Kenly Drug Company to buy a toy.
Rose had a gift for bringing people together. She loved entertaining in her home, playing bridge with friends, and spending time on the golf course. A devoted Tar Heel, she proudly supported Carolina athletics as a member of the Rams Club. She enjoyed attending UNC football and basketball games. Some of her happiest moments were spent at her cottage at Holden Beach, where she enjoyed long walks on the beach and quiet afternoons swinging beneath the deck at her cottage.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rose was predeceased by two sisters, Janie Crumpton Evans Reece and Elva Crumpton Oakes; a brother, Robert Earl Crumpton. She is survived by two sons, Allan Craig Boyd Jr of Oak Island; Andrew R Boyd and wife Dee of Wilson; and a daughter Melissa Rose Proctor and husband Chris of Wilson. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren; Caroline Boyd, Blair Boyd, Bailey Boyd, Ashlyn Boyd, Holden Proctor, Claire Proctor, Davis Boyd, and Anna Campbell Boyd. She was a favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews and will be greatly missed by all.
A graveside service will be at noon Saturday, March 28, 2026, in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson, North Carolina. Pastor David Thurman will officiate.
