Leland “Royce” Pittman, 91, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 11. Family will receive friends on Monday, May 15 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and a Celebration of Life will follow at 7:00 pm at Daniels Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Reverend Josh Preskitt will officiate. Interment will be held on Tuesday, May 16 at 11:00 am at Evergreen Memorial Park, 2800 Nash St. N, Wilson, NC. Reverend Rachel Kwashe and Reverend Sandy Pittman will officiate at interment.
In the early 1970’s, Royce established the electrical program at Wilson County Technical Institute and remained there for over 20 years as an instructor. He served the electrical industry for over 35 years. In addition, Royce served his country honorably and faithfully in the U.S. Navy.
Royce spent several years singing with various music groups and enjoyed spreading the gospel through music. He was a lifelong member of Daniels Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and was instrumental in building it.
Royce is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Barbara Owens Pittman; son, Christopher “Chris” Royce Pittman and wife, Sandy of Wilson; daughter, Janet Pittman Williamson and husband, Greg of Wilson; grandsons, Matthew Williamson and wife, Carrie of Wendell, Ryan Pittman of Wilson, Blaine Pittman of Wilson, and Tyler Pittman of Wilson; granddaughter, Laurie Williamson of Wilson; great- grandson, Emmitt Williamson of Wendell; sister, Linda P. Mitchell of Bear Grass; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Pittman of Bennettsville, SC.
Royce is preceded in death by his parents, William Cecil Pittman and Cassie Lancaster Pittman; brother, Howard Pittman; and sister, Janice Clark.
