Maverick Jonathan Hardison, age 6, was a sweet boy who brought love and happiness to everyone who knew him. Born on March 13, 2020, Maverick filled his days with laughter and a spirit that touched so many.
Maverick was all boy—full of energy, curiosity, and a love for adventure. He was a kindergartener at Red Oak Elementary School and a member of Oak Grove Church in Elm City. He was a huge fan of Power Rangers and could often be found playing T-ball, strumming on his guitar at Oak Grove Boys singings, or building things with his Legos. He loved playing basketball and soccer, riding his bike and scooter, and especially taking trips to the beach. Maverick loved his family and his friends deeply. Above all, Maverick loved Jesus and couldn’t wait for “church day”. He had a kind and gentle heart and was known for praying for others, always thinking of those around him.
He is survived by his loving mother, Stephanie Hardison of Elm City; his father, Jonathan Hardison of Kinston; his sister, Heidi; and his brother, Thomas. He is also survived by his grandparents, Roger and Tammy Summerlin, and Mike and Sandy Hardison; his aunts, Amy Summerlin and Tracey Parker (Kevin); his uncles, Nicholas Summerlin, Christian Summerlin, and Josh Hardison (Christen); many cousins and extended family; and his “Gray Gray.”
Maverick was preceded in death by his aunt, Kayla Perez; his great-grandparents, Margaret and Allen Hardison, Jerry Moody and Julian and Bernice Sanders, Thomas and Lula Leigh Summerlin, and James Perry; his great-uncle, Larry Summerlin; and his cousin, Stephanie Jones.
Though his time here was short, Maverick’s life was full of love, laughter, and light. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Elm City.
