Michael Bertis Deans, born January 1, 1958, passed away leaving behind a legacy of strength, laughter, and creativity.
A Wilson County native, Mike grew up on a tobacco farm where his lifelong passion for archaeology began. He spent nearly 50 years hunting arrowheads, worked 30 years at Firestone, and later helped carry on his mother’s antique business. A talented artist, a lover of westerns, and one of the longest living LVAD recipients from Duke University Hospital, Mike’s resilience inspired all who knew him.
He is survived by his mother, Jean Barnes; his sister, Janine Mullen (and her husband Carroll Mullen;) his daughter, Lydia Deans (and her husband Allen Farlow) his son Johnny Deans; and two cherished grandchildren, Jude and Harper.
Mike will be remembered for his off the wall humor, his tender heart, and his ability to find joy even in the hardest of times.
The family will have a memorial service at a later date.
