Mona Matthews Ellis

 Mona Matthews Ellis, 88, of Wilson, NC, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Spring Arbor of Wilson. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rufus Staton Ellis, Sr. She is survived by her three children: Lane Morgan and husband Allan of Raleigh, David Ellis of Kinston, and Staton Ellis of Wilson; four cherished granddaughters, Anna Morgan, Sarah Morgan, Lauren Ellis, and Sydney Ellis; and her sister, Jo Matthews Mercer and husband Ennis of Rocky Mount. 

Mona was a graduate of Kings Business College and began her career with Lucas, Rand, and Rose, Attorneys at Law. She went on to serve with dedication and integrity, retiring in 2006 as the Deputy in Charge with the United States Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of North Carolina. 

She was an avid reader with a deep love for politics and the law. Most importantly, her Christian faith was central to her life, and she was a devoted partner with Grace Raleigh Church. 

Mona will be remembered for her sharp mind, steadfast faith, and her unwavering love for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Many thanks to the staff at Spring Arbor of Wilson and Gentiva Hospice for their love and care. 

A private family service will be held.
