Patricia Ann Horne Smith March 9, 1942 – October 11, 2020 On Sunday, October 11, 2020, Patricia Ann Horne Smith, loving wife, mother of three and grandmother of five, passed away peacefully at the age of 78. Patricia will be remembered for being truly the best wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend that anyone could have. She put her family and friends above anything else in life and always welcomed you with a kind smile, a tender hug, a listening ear and a warm heart. Patricia lived each day according to her core values to put family first, love unconditionally and treat everyone with respect. The grace, kindness, courage, devotion and sincerity that she modeled will live vibrantly in the legacy of her family that she loved so dearly. Patricia was born on March 9, 1942 and raised in Wilson, North Carolina. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Atlantic Christian College (now known as Barton College). After college, Patricia moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia to be a teacher. It was there that she met her beloved husband, Gordon Clark Smith. Shortly after they were married, Patricia and Gordon moved to New York. With the exception of two years residing in Dover, Delaware, they raised their family in Rockland County, New York for over fifty years. Patricia worked for the Town of Clarkstown for over 30 years. She was a pre-school teacher before becoming director of programs for the town. After that, Patricia led the Registration team for the Parks and Recreation Department many years. Patricia is survived by her devoted husband, Gordon and her loving children; son, Gordon Clark Smith, Jr. and his wife, Angela Bryant Smith of Washington, DC, daughter, Courtney (Cooke) Smith Goodrich and her fiancé Scott Thomas Gilliland of West Chester, Pennsylvania, daughter, Paige (MacKenzie) Smith Harrington and her husband, David Lawson Harrington of Greenville, North Carolina. Patricia is also survived by her five wonderful grandchildren, Gordon Clark Smith III (24), Hayleigh Catherine Goodrich (19), Peyton Ruth Smith (17), Lawson Reid Harrington (9), Blake MacKenzie Harrington (5). In addition, she is also survived by her loving siblings, Elmer Lee Horne Jr of Holly Springs, North Carolina, Doris Pruitt of Raleigh, North Carolina and Hadie Horne of Wilson, North Carolina as well as her beloved nieces and nephew, Dave Davis of New Bern, North Carolina, Lisa Bayliss of New Bern, North Carolina, Michele Wilson of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, Katherine Blanton of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, Karyn Knoke of King George, Virginia and Jennifer Knight of Park City, Utah and many cherished grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Patricia was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Lee Horne, her mother, Annie Pearl Cook Horne, her beloved grandmother, Mama Cook and her cousin Hadylene Coley Davis as well as Hadylene’s husband, George Davis. Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, 207 Tarboro Street, Wilson. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson. The Rev. Gary Walling will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10 – 10:45 a.m. at First Christian Church, Wilson. In lieu of flowers and donations, Patricia’s family asks that you simply love one another and be thankful for each day you have together.
