Phillip Emmette Turner Jr. passed away peacefully at home on February 8, 2026, with his family by his side. Phil was born in Nash County to Phillip and Elizabeth Turner Sr. and lived in many different states and countries due to his father’s service in the US Air Force. Phil graduated from Spring Hope High School and attended NC State University before enlisting in the US Air Force. Following his military service, he completed his college degree, graduating from Atlantic Christian College in 1973.
Phil was known for his work ethic and spent his career working for Burlington Industries, Black & Decker, and finally retiring from Kidde Aerospace. Finding retirement a little too slow-paced for his personality, he worked part-time at Raleigh Road Baptist Church for five years where he was also a member.
Phil’s favorite titles in life were Papa and G.T. (Grandpa Turner). He got so much joy from spending time with his family, especially from attending any sporting or other type of event his grandchildren participated in.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathy Turner; son, Tre’ Turner and wife, Angie; daughter, Brittany Adams and husband, Mickey; stepsons, David Jackson and wife, Monaka, and Barry Jackson; grandchildren, Lyndsey and husband, Austin Joyner, Landon Turner, Levi Turner, Turner Adams, Carter Adams, Destiny and husband, Kiel Principato, Julianne Ka, and Cora Jackson. He also loved and spoiled his dogs, Maverick and Chloe.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A service to honor his life will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday evening, February 12, 2026, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson.
A time of visitation with his family will take place immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
In leui of flowers, please consider a donation in Phillip’s memory to Veterans Residential Services of Wilson, 2500 Nash Street, Suite E, Wilson, North Carolina 27896 or Transitions Life Care of Raleigh, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, North Carolina 27607.
