Robert "Bob" Earl Taylor

Robert “Bob” Earl Taylor, 79, of Sims, passed away Tuesday. A Funeral Service will be held at 5:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4:00 – 4:45 p.m. Rev. Jack Stone will officiate.

Bob was a giant among men, not because of his stature, but because of his immense "heart after God.”  He was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a friend and brother-in-Christ to many.  He had a love for people exemplified by his servant's heart. Bob was always willing to be of service to anyone that needed his talents and abilities.

Bob was a master of many trades, including HVAC sheet metal fabrication, electrical, plumbing, and construction. After retiring from his HVAC career, he used his acquired knowledge to perform handyman jobs for years.

Bob loved hunting and fishing (especially in Colorado). He loved riding horses. He shared this passion with the Church youth group by teaching them horse training basics. Bob, aka "Jolly Bob,” was also the rodeo clown at Little Man Rodeos, sponsored by his church.

Bob will always be remembered for his unwavering dedication to God, and his service to his family and friends.  His desire was to please the Father and portray that love by the way he loved others.  His faith and love of God was his life.

We will forever miss you Bob, but you are home at last!  "Well done, thy good and faithful servant" is surely your reward.

Bob is survived by his wife, Virginia Woody Taylor of the home; daughters, Laveada Taylor Elliott (Roger Elliott) of Oxford, Anita Taylor Surdzial (Rich Surdzial) of Sims and Jennifer Taylor Ruple (Brooks Ruple) of Summersville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Roger Elliott, Jr. of Oxford, Hannah Surdzial of Sims, Austin Ruple, Colby Ruple and Brooke Ruple of Summerville, South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Daisy Taylor McCarthy and stepfather, Henry McCarthy, both of Durham.
