Roger Lyn Davis

Roger Lyn Davis, 61, of Sims passed away Monday, August 24, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. Inurnment will be held at Marsh Swamp Original Free Will Baptist Church, 6664 Rock Ridge School Road, Sims. Brother Ronnie Wise will officiate.

The family will receive friends Friday evening, August 28, 2026, from 5-7 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.

In his early adulthood, he served his country as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he became a firefighter for Sims Volunteer Fire Department, working his way up the ranks to become Chief of that department, and worked as an EMT for Wilson Rescue for many years. He went on to work for over 24 years for CW Williams as a mobile service tech. He was very well known in his community and across the state for his work with and around fire equipment and emergency medical services. His service to his country and community, and the pride he took in the work he did, will be appreciated, remembered, and honored for lifetimes to come. He was always willing and ready to help anyone he could, however he could, and never expected or wanted anything in return. He loved his family and was so proud of his two grandsons who share his love of fire trucks. He fought the good fight and ultimately won his final battle as he is now at peace with the Lord. He will be missed in the lives of all those who loved him, and he will live on in our hearts forever.

Lyn is survived by his son, Hunter Davis and wife, Sarah of Goldsboro; grandsons, Caison and Cole Davis; brothers, Frederick Davis and wife, Debbie of Knightdale, and Donald Davis and wife, Janie of Elm City; many nieces and nephews; and his best friend and loyal companion, Ruger, his chocolate lab.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leland Carl Davis, and his mother, Ruth Carter Davis.
