Roney Frederick Allen January 20, 1929 – December 30, 2020 Roney Frederick “Fred” Allen, 91 of Wilson, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at home. Fred was a dedicated husband, father and executive. He served in the US Air Force from 1948 - 1952 most significantly with the 338th Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron, Ramey AFB. Upon completion of his military service, he met his devoted wife of 61 years Audrey White Allen. Together they lived out their Christian faith as active members of Hornes United Methodist Church. Fred earned his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Atlantic Christian College. He spent 30+ years of his professional career with Teledyne Thermatics serving as President upon his retirement. He enjoyed that his military service and business career afforded him the opportunity to travel and promote the growth of the wire and cable manufacturing industry. Fred loved spending time with his family and derived much joy from grandchildren and hobbies in addition to his lifelong enjoyment of golf. Following his retirement, Fred shifted his work ethic into the propagation of azaleas and woodworking. He is survived by his, daughter, Donna A. Johnson and husband, Allen of Arden; his three sons, R. Edward Allen and wife, Nikita of Wilson, Robert B. Allen and wife, Faye of Madison Heights, Virginia and Barry G. Allen and wife, Susan of Greenville; ten grandchildren, Jessica Allen Wheeler of Huddleston, Virginia, Rebecca Allen Brantley (Tyler) of Sims, Jonathan Allen (Tiffany) of Ashburn, Virginia, Laura Johnson Lee (Nick) of Winston Salem, Mary Allen Jones (David) of Black Creek, Marci Allen of Elm City, Jennifer Allen (Maddy) of Carolina Beach, Caroline Allen of Greenville, Will Allen of Greenville, and Kim Grigsby Crocker (Brandon) of Marietta, Georgia and nine great-grandchildren. One of eleven children of his late parents Roney Wesley and Lissie Davis Allen, he is survived by eight siblings. Sisters; Marjorie Fields (Harry) of Kinston, Jenny Privette (Tommy) of Liberty, Shirley Baker (Lewis) of Pinetops, Cathy Holland of Wilson and Ruby Wooten (Lee) of Rocky Mount; brothers, Billy Allen (Faye) of Glen Allen, Virginia, Johnny Allen (Almeta) of Lillington and E. R. Allen (Thelma) of Burlington and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Audrey White Allen; sister, Hilda Barfield Gardner and brother, James Ray Allen. A graveside service will be held at 3:00PM in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The Rev. Darrel Bowles will officiate. A public viewing will be held Monday from 9:00AM – 1:00PM at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
