Sammie Gene Raper February 22, 1944 – April 18, 2021 Sammie Gene Raper, 77 of Wilson passed away Sunday. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 – 6:15 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson followed by his funeral services at 6:30 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Spring Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lucama. The Rev. David Linton will officiate. Social distance and face mask are required for the service and his visitation. The family will receive friends at the home. Sammie is survived by his loving wife, Frances Hathaway-Raper; son, Sammie Ryan Raper and wife, Heather; daughter, Christy Raper Cichon and husband, Martin; grandson, Nolan Raper; granddaughters, Kaleigh Smith, Morgan Cichon, Madison Cichon, Madelyn Raper, Ashton Hathaway, and Taylor Cox; great-granddaughter, Layne Cox; brother, Pete Raper; sister-in-law, Edna Earle Raper; daughter-in-law, Sandy Hathaway; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Plummer Raper; mother, Bertha Raper Wood; step-father, Ernest Wood; step-son, Jeff Hathaway, and his brother, Billy Raper.
