Scott David Edwards

Scott David Edwards, 65, of Sims, North Carolina, passed away Saturday. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, April 4, 2022, at Sunset Avenue Baptist Church, 3732 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Pastor Robin Fisher will officiate.  A Memorial Service will be held later in Dallas, Texas.

Scott, the second of five boys born to Welcome Vernon and Nila Merle Edwards, grew up in El Paso, Texas, where he graduated from Eastwood High School.  Adulthood took him to the Fort Worth area as he began working as an auto parts distributor and machinist.  He quickly emerged as a forward thinker and leader amongst peers.  His award-winning career continued to develop to the corporate executive level for several multi-national companies, corporate and non-profit board positions, mergers and acquisitions, and counseling struggling businesses into profitable turnaround.  His career culminated in North Carolina where he met “the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen”, his wife of 7 years, Lee.

An avid runner, cyclist, and swimmer, Scott was an IronMan athlete.  He challenged himself in countless races and IronMan competitions in several states and countries.  One of his life mantras was “Always take the stairs”.

Although impressive, his career and competitive accolades were not the source of his greatest joy.  His overwhelming pride came on the heels of his biggest regret.  Late in his life he came to realize that he had often sacrificed the most important relationships in pursuit of the next promotion.  Scott has spent the last several years pursuing, renewing, and rebuilding relationships with his beloved daughters and stepdaughter, adored granddaughters, family and friends.  Above all else, he sought to develop his relationship with Jesus Christ.  Scott had a passion for giving of his time, energy, and experience in the community, church, and family.  His quiet kindness, love, and generosity will be missed by all of those who knew him.

Scott is survived by his wife, Lee Edwards, his daughters Monica Edwards and Sydney Edwards Osborne and her husband Keylan Osborne, his stepdaughter Morgan Winstead, and two granddaughters, Mia Carin and Finley Beth.  He is also survived by his brothers and their families, Welcome Fred and Debbie Edwards, Stuart and Paula Edwards, Joel and Rhonda Edwards, and Matthew and Rachael Edwards, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and family who dearly loved him.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents, Welcome Vernon and Nila Merle Edwards.

Memorial services will be handled by Joyner’s Funeral Home in Wilson, NC.  Please visit www.joyners.net for updates on pending arrangements.  The family requests donations to Jobs for Life (http://jobsforlife.org) in lieu of flowers.
