Sefton Strickland January 10, 1929 – April 20, 2019  Rev. Sefton Strickland unexpectedly passed away on April 20, 2019 in Florida.   He was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Inah and Sefton Strickland Sr. He attended Georgia Tech before serving in the Army during WWII and the Korean War.  Returning home, he finished his engineering degree, while working for Grinnell Company and teaching dance lessons at Arthur Murry’s Studio.  In 1953, he met Sara Van de Grift at a church gathering and with Sara by his side decided to become a Presbyterian Minister. They married in 1955 and raised five children; Debora McEwen (Chip), Sefton Strickland (Darlene), Scott, Russell, and Angelia Hill (Brad); seven 7 grandchildren, Terry, Katie, Zachary, Joshua, David, Sam, Sefton and Sylas. He leaves behind all his children and the Van de Grift, Raxter in-laws, nephews and nieces. Sefton served as Presbyterian minister in Bremen, Georgia, Dekalb and Meridian Mississippi, Brandon and Englewood Florida, Bow Creek, Virginia Beach and Buffalo Presbyterian Church in Sanford.  He retired at the age of 91 from Springhill Presbyterian Church, Lucama. He served as a Chaplain for Shaw Air Force Base and the Civil Air Patrol.  His love for Martial Arts served as his connection with leading young people to Christ, teaching and starting schools for thirty years.  He was a great Sinsea and leader of people...he touched many lives. He will now join Saint Sara to watch over all of us as we continue life with their spiritual guidance. His visitation will be held from 2:00 – 2:45 p.m. Sunday at Springhill Presbyterian Church, 7335 Springfield School Road, Lucama with his funeral service at 3 p.m. Condolences may be directed to Joyner’s Funeral Home at www.joyners.net.
