Simpson Smith July 13, 1931 – August 13, 2020 Simpson “Bones” Smith passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2020. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, August 22, 2020, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Pastor Michael Crocker will be officiating. Visitation with the family will take place immediately following the service. A private burial took place on Friday, August 14, 2020, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Wilson. Bones was born July 13, 1931, in Wayne County. He was one of thirteen children born to the late Ben Smith and Julia Strickland Smith. Bones is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jewel Kirby Smith; daughter, Lindy Smith Whitley; grandson, Joshua Todd Whitley (Megan) and great-granddaughter, Caroline Ruth Whitley. Bones graduated from Lucama High School and retired from the Wilson County ABC Board. He was a long-time member of the Moose Lodge and TPA. He was also a long-time member of First Free Will Baptist Church “Connect Church”, Wilson. Memorials are suggested to the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home in Middlesex, PO Box 249, Middlesex, North Carolina 27557.
