Wilbur Cooper Davis, Sr. age 95, passed away Monday, September 8, 2025.

Wilbur was born November 23, 1929, alongside the mighty Mississippi River, in the town of Mayersville, in Issaquena County, Mississippi to Charlie Cagle Davis, Sr. and Velma Janie Cooper Davis. They soon moved back to family land near the Town of Louisville in Winston County, Mississippi, where he attended Louisville Public Schools. He was inducted into the United States Army on November 13, 1952, to serve in the Koren War. While serving he received the “National Defense Medal, United Nations Medal, Bronze Koren Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Purple Heart Medal”. He was married to Jennie Frances Stancil on December 9, 1956, until her death April 5, 2016. He was a loving and nurturing husband and father. Wilbur was a faithful member of Peace Church in Wilson where he could always be found setting in the “A-MEN” corner of the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Cagle Davis, Sr., and Velma Janie Cooper Davis; brother, Charlie Cagle Davis, Jr. (Kitty); sisters, Chandra Davis Barrett (Glenn) and Maude Davis Shaw (John); children, Brooks Allen Davis and Wilbur Cooper Davis, Jr.

He is survived by his son, Randy Allen Davis, and wife, Julie; grandchildren, Lloyd Allen, Luke Thomas (Hannah), Lillie Elizabeth Davis, all of Stantonsburg, as well as many special nieces and nephews to whom he was as much a big brother as an uncle.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday September 13, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, with pastor Rusty Russell officiating. Interment will follow in Stancil’s Family Cemetery, 8371 Stancil Town Road, Stantonsburg, North Carolina.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raliegh Road Parkway, Wilson.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all the many medical staff members and administrative staff members of the following establishments; Durham and Greenville VA Clincs, Wilson Medical Center, Wilson Rehabilitation Center, Veteran’s Home of Kinston, UNC Health Lenior, and Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Peace Church, “Next Campaign”, 2838 Tilghman Road, Wilson, North Carolina 27896.
