Wilbur Brooks Powell

Wilbur B. Powell, 87, of Wilson, passed away on December 11, 2022, in Raleigh. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 – 5:45 p.m. January 5, 2023, with a 6 p.m. memorial service to follow at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Rev. Johnny Hendrick will officiate.

Wilbur was born in Greensboro, to Christine Capps on December 31, 1934. He went to school in Elm City. He married Betty F. Bunting on August 28, 1959, in Elm City. Wilbur worked as a utilities technician for The City of Wilson for sixty-seven years. With honor and pride, he served his country in the Army and the Army Reserves.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and his parents, Hunter Capps, and Christine Capps 

Wilbur is survived by his daughter, Michelle Powell-Beamon and husband, Nicholas Beamon; brother Larry Capps and wife, Judy Capps; sister, Shirley Wooten, and his step grandchildren Madison Beamon, Haley Beamon, Erin Beamon
